In early September
the phone starts a ringin’
He’s all excited to tell me
all the stuff he’s bringin’
He says with his new camo,
in the woods he’ll disappear.
And with his new rifle and scope,
He can remove a gnats ear.
His bullets will be special
Reloaded just for this trip
And a knife from the Marines
He’ll wear on his hip.
On and On,
He goes down the list.
We’re two months away
And already I’m gettin’ pissed.
When are we leaving?
What day will we be back?
Is there anything else
You want me to pack?
Duffels and suitcases
He’s got the whole kitchen sink
As he gets in the car,
I already need a drink
Now I’m not complaining,
At the camp he’ll be lots of fun
He’ll see several bucks and miss
And blame it on his gun!
The cooking and cleaning
He’ll really do good
He’ll throw darts and drink beer
And bring in the wood.
Yes, each character we bring up
Will somehow fit in
Some will hunt hard
and some will sleep in.
A few will return,
Without fail every year
You see, it isn’t just about,
gettin’ a deer.
Each Fall allows pals
to remember the past
And to create new memories
that forever will last.
