Don (Jake) Corbine

I’ve known Jake for nearly 30 years. I met him when I first drove out looking for the property where my camp is now located. I did not know that I was speaking to someone who is now a legend in that part of the Adirondacks.

What can I say? I call him the “Guardian” of Donnerville Road. NOTHING happens on Donnerville without Jake being aware of it! It is absolutely uncanny. Now, if it is daylight when I get out there I just start a pot of coffee. Automatically. Because 9 times out of 10, within an hour Jake will be stopping by to say hello. Jake is a Veteran of the Korean War. A former P.O.W., he’s been invited to some big events, as far away as Washington. But up here at camp, what he’s known for are his saying’s. Like, “SHOOT them sonsofbitches!” or Jamie’s favorite, the warning about the state land. “Don’t go up there,…… bad things happen up there…”
