At The Ramp

Rich Akin

We Loaded The Boat and Backed Down The Ramp
All Very Excited,  To Set Up Remote Camp
Into The Water,  Went The Boat With Our Gear
It Looked Like We Were Loaded,  To Stay In For A Year

With Gary In The Truck  And Me In The Boat
I Knew We Both Wondered,  If It Would Still Really Float
The Water Line Came Up,  Right Even To The Oars
And I Looked At The Truck,  As Water Rose To The Door

I Started The Motor And Put The Gear In Reverse
But The Boat Did Not Move,  No Matter How Much We Cursed
It Appeared It was Obvious,  That We Had Way Too Much Weight
As Gary Climbed Out And Said Now “That’s F……… Great!”

He Put On His Boots And Walked Up To The Bow
And Said Stop “Trying To Baby It, Give It Full Throttle Now!”
But Nothing We Did Would Break The Boat Free
Gary Was Irate,  It Was Very Plain To See

He Went Back To The Truck And Pulled The Boat Out
And Crawled Under The Trailer And In Amazement Did Shout
“You Stupid Dumb Ass,  I’ve Got This Figured Now”
He Had Forgotten The Ratchet Straps That Hold The Boat Down

Back Down The Ramp We Went,  Truck,Trailer And Boat
And Low And Behold This Time It Did Really Float
We Piled In The Boat And Headed Up Lake
Laughing Our Asses Off,  At The Latest “Akin Mistake”

We’ve Made Some Great Memories And Stories To Spin
About What All Has Happened When “We’re On Our Way In”
