Gary Akin
We all have opinions
and mine are the best
Yours are all wrong
Just let it rest
But as I get older
Most don’t want to hear
The lessons I’ve learned
while out hunting deer
You all want to argue
and tell me I’m wrong
You say, “You haven’t killed one…
Its been, just how long?..
Well that doesn’t matter
I know that I’m right
And you, you were lucky
that there still was daylight
If we’re walking out
and we need to go west
Where the sun is now setting,
is the way that’s the best
You tell me, “I’ll see you,
back at the truck”
as you head off your way
I holler, “Good Luck!”
I got to the truck
my clothes all torn and tattered
But I got there First!
and that’s all that mattered
My flashlight had died
I struggled to see
you emerge from the woods
because you had to pee
Are you okay to drive?
You ask with a grin
I’ve been waiting awhile
I’m now three beers in!
So I drive in silence
all the way to the cabin
I don’t want to hear
any more of your babblin’
I guess I deserved it
It was your turn to bask
but you gave me credit
when I heard you ask…
Any trouble with the cliffs
or the swamp in your way?
That’s why I took the state trail
you showed me back in the day..
I guess I’ll forgive you
But we both were right
My way was shorter
But yours best that night
I’m old now and stubborn
It’s just who I am
I’ll work to be patient
as much as I can
I’ll try not to argue
and say my way is best
Life is too short
I’ll just let it rest
